Morning all!
Get your butts over to Sf Signal where there’s a very interesting Mind Meld with a whole host of BL authors about the appeal of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
Of course, there’s a bit from yours truly too…

Okay folks, if you really love me and my Salamanders, get your butts over to premier science fiction blog site SF Signal to register your vote in the cover smackdown!
Regular followers of this blog (and SF Signal, to be fair) may remember that Salamander was the subject of a cover smackdown a few months ago and got rudely bounced (tie-in fiction snobbery, mutter, mutter…).
Well, here’s a chance to set the record straight as none other than Firedrake is going up against not one, but two other sf covers.
It’s actually extremely awesome to be back up on the cover smackdown, and it’s testament to Cheoljoo Lee’s fantastic artwork that the series returns to duke it out.
So, show your support peeps – vote Firedrake for a fiery world.
You know it makes sense!
I recently had the great privilege of being asked to participate in SF Signal’s latest Mind Meld. This time the subject matter was ‘How the Hottest Short Fiction Anthologies are Created…’
Having worked on several anthologies for the Black Library (as well as contributing to a fair few as a writer), I relished the chance to talk about the process I go through when conceiving and collecting stories.
You can check out the various discourses on the subject by a whole host of editors at SF Signal. The topic was so expansive and the response so great that it’s actually in three parts. I was nearly last to submit my piece, so I’m in the third chunk.
Personally, I found it fascinating to read the different thoughts and methodologies by the various editors who contributed. It’s an interesting read and offers plenty of ideas and insights.
Perhaps most intriguing of all is that George Mann went for the same analogy as me when he likened a good anthology to putting together a good mix tape! I guess he’s been watching High Fidelity too! :-p
Check out this link to sf signal. It refers to the recent (ish) cover smackdown that featured Salamander and goes on to challenge some of the negative opinions voiced about franchise fiction, specifically Warhammer 40,000, in that article.
I for one am heartily pleased that a general sf reader is extolling the virtues of the Warhammer 40,000 fiction line (and Warhammer, by extension). I believe it shows that the novels and the authors of this series can be rightly proud of their work and that it genuinely stands apart from the majority of then other franchise fiction out there.
But don’t just take my word for it, check out the article for yourself. It makes for interesting reading…
