Space Marines are on IGN!
Well, being a Games Workshopper myself, I don’t know how this slipped by without notice but OMG… I have just seen the debut trailer of Warhammer: Space Marine on IGN.com.
Hell, I think I may have pooped my pants a little. It feels really weird, sitting here and writing this blog posting, given that you’d probably have expected me to know about this already. I don’t and wow, this just looks totally awesome. It’s a console game by THQ and Relic (the masterminds behind the Dawn of War franchise) and it looks to be a third-person shoot ‘em up.
Quite frankly, this simply looks amazing. Check out this link to IGN at once, where you’ll find all of the gen and be able to clap your peepers on some art work and the simply stunning trailer and gameplay demo (there are Space Marines running around, tonking orks in the style of Gears of War!!! Man, I need to calm down).
Don’t want to sound too much like a fanboy, but…
AWESOME!
AWESOME!
AWESOME!
Phew!
Watch it, just watch it… Right now.

Is it possible I knew about this before you? :O!!
There was a video leak almost a year ago regarding this game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCISCM6xj2g&ytsession=s_ieXj2HuxLYhAgB2aTJ_f0_a0SaxkhjG3fA3-efl9WjlR5QRgr-bt6Og5nFCfKXkCrxOsm2uj3qKRKWXg_R0Q8VoIcaHcrhSA6JoABOdyTsnulQf7dagODTA6lPcY_9E3nBb_eB84EoSALm68hl_B2I96L89oC8mAPmq_omgOIIT_6l8Svz-xLRpA7uWeuFd8xMDAMXwVsL6risdp5WqcfOReGLVvk1gd4hPSli6TQ) and Graham Mcneil actually had a hands-on play with it when he visited THQ hmmmm quite a few months ago.
I guess the Inquisition must have been looking too closely for comfort since he didn’t even spill some beans to his editor
That being said, I gotta agree that this game really potrays well the massive destruction, brutality and atmosphere of the 40K Universe.
But you’re wrong on one side, this game is so not GOW. You’ll level up, learn skills, arm the Astartes with various warger and also you won’t be killed with a couple of shots.
Hopefully the story of the game will be far superrior to DOW 2, which was somewhat lacking, and be written by someone from BL.
Come to think of it I believe it would be cool if the game would be seperated into chapters and each chapter will be written by a BL author.
Nick, as Editor of BL, you might want to consider this idea and throw it to THQ for grabs.

Quite possibly.
Does look good, though, doesn’t it? The GoW comment was meant more as a ‘you get to control a single Space Marine and do lots of chopping with chainswords, shooting bolters, insteads of point-click strategising’ than a ‘it’s just like GoW!’ More of a style comments than a direct tranposition of the GoW gaming engine (but who doesn’t love GoW?). I like the idea of levelling up, choosing different characters, weapons etc. Not sure BL has much to do with these scripts; don’t even know who’s writing it. Interesting suggestions, though.
Can’t wait!

See…it’s this sort of thing that makes me wonder if our GW rep:
a) told me fibs
or
b) really doesn’t have his ear to the ground.
When DoW2 came out, I remember having a conversation with him about making 40K games on various other platforms other than the PC, like they’ve done with Squad Command…..after all, online multiplayer gaming is pretty well cemented in the current next gen consoles.
Plus I think via the consoles, rather than PC, there’s a better change of getting a heap of downloadable content to make stuff even better.
The general conclusion of the conversation was…..pretty much non-commital really, with a nudge towards the side of keeping it PC for the time being.
But apparently not…and that makes me happy!
Trailer looks AWESOME!
And since I’m hip deep in Dynasty Warriors 6 at the moment, I think I’ll be well trained to take on an Ork horde…especially since I’ve been training with nothing more than sticks (both pointy and not pointy) and knives and big-ass maces.

Ha, sometimes I think there are things that are deliberately kept under wraps so as not to spoil anticipation by releasing info too early. There is also the fact that not all information is known to everyone.
I tell you what, though… this game looks totally amazing. Even if there’s a wait for it, I am going to be honing my GoW skills from now until then. So no pointy sticks for me, I’ll settled for an automatic lancer rifle with a chainsword attached. Holler!

Bolters, chainswords, pointy sticks…..they’re all the same to me.
They’ll all have me shouting at the TV while mashing the buttons in something vaugely resembling the right sequence in order to take as many with me before I go down in the hope that I’ll kill the bad guy first before he kills me.
