And the winners are…

Apologies it’s a little late but I’ve finally drawn the winners to the Fireborn competition. I’m blame the onset of Xmas for my tardiness and all the malarky that goes hand-in-hand with that.

Okies, cast your minds back… up for grabs was a copy of the Fireborn extract booklet as read during the Warhammer Club Day held at GW Head Office.

Many entered, but only five were called… Step forward, venerated winners:

Dan Potts
Eric Burney
Darin Haley
Moffen
Andy Nisbet

Commiserations to the rest of you, but thank you so much for entering the comp, which had proven to be my most successful one yet by a clear, country mile!

Almost 90 people (yes, 90! I could hardly believe it myself) had a go and, hopefully, you’ll all be checking out the audio book as soon as it’s released next year.

Winners, I shall be contacting you via email in order to get a mailing address where I can send the extract booklets!

In the meantime, I’m working on a short story for the BL Live chapbook called ‘The Burning’ (yes, it’s Salamanders) and then it’s on to Firedrake

Have a great Christmas, everyone (or whatever celebrations might be taking place for you) and a very Happy New Year! :)

    Dear Nick.

My compliments for the first Salamanders book ! I finished this one recently and I really enjoyed this book.
There are some very nice characters in it, like Dakír, Tsu’gan and the cool one Elysius !

Also, the aspect of the new captain N’Keln who has to prove himself and is struggling was a very nice one. While reading I was always hoping him to succeed !

But the end : that really was sad and made me a bit emotional and angry. This shows that you made a decision which would influence a reader ! Nicely done, but it was cruel also.

At the end of the book I had about the same sad feeling as with the ending of the movie the fellowship of the ring. Really about the same, and making me looking forward to the short stories and firedrake.

You really made a chapter of your own, very different from all the others. Perhaps that is one of your best accomplishments with this book. Nice work !

A few questions which I hope you will be able to answer :

    - When do you start writing about Cato Sicarius and the ultramarines 2nd company ? You said you would like to write a full novel about them. Do you already know when to start ? Sicarius is a real hero, and such a guy I missed a bit in Salamander.
    - Are you allowed to say anything about Aaron demski bowden’s horus heresy book : the first heretic ? Is this book about the fall of the word bearers ? But why a custodes on the cover ?

Thank you very much in advance for answering these questions if possible.

Best wishes from the Netherlands. I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year !
    Bastiaan Vergoossen.

The question rather is would this (i.e. Aaron’s HH book) mean that Anthony Reynold will write a HH Night Lords novel now (instead of Word Bearers)? ;)

Congratulations to all the winners, you lucky, lucky people! :)

Nick; I second the “when do we get more Sicarius?” comment. You already know how much I looooooooooved Assault on Black Reach.

Also, were you at Lenton last Thursday? I am sure I spotted you passing through Bugman’s with a big box in hand? You still owe me a drink. :P
